At this point in the season, the New York Jets were expected to be among the best teams in the league.
That hasn’t been the case.
They have the same record as the New England Patriots, a team projected to be among the bottom-feeders.
At 3-8, the playoffs are not entirely out of the question, but even if they were to finish the season strong, they look far from a contender.
To make things worse, Aaron Rodgers reportedly no longer wants to be there.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the veteran signal-caller’s relationship with owner Woody Johnson has become distant.
While he wants to stay in the league, he doesn’t want to play for the Jets:
“As for Rodgers, his relationship with the owner has been strained for months — that’s not a secret in the building or the locker room. At this point, after conversations with sources with the team and around the league, my understanding is that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, just not for the New York Jets,” Russini said.
Needless to say, this is a massive blow for a team that went the extra mile to ensure his comfort.
From keeping Nathaniel Hackett around despite his evident miscues and constant shortcomings to trading for and signing several former teammates, the Jets constantly tried to appease their veteran quarterback.
Rodgers isn’t entirely to blame for the team’s debacle, nor is he responsible for their decision to fire Robert Saleh and/or Joe Douglas, but his disappointing play didn’t help much, either.
Given his age and demeanor, it’s hard to envision any team giving up a lot to get him.
Still, he’s on a team-friendly deal with one year left in his contract, so it shouldn’t be that hard to find another home.
