It was an otherwise perfectly ordinary suburban home in the US state of Maryland, with a mix of white paint, red brick and scattered green foliage peppering the exterior. Yet beneath the surface of this quiet neighbourhood dwelling lurked a strange secret project; the brainchild of a highly intelligent, wealthy and deeply paranoid man by the name of Daniel Beckwitt.
Hit by personal tragedy in his life, Beckwitt became obsessed with his own mortality and the possible outbreak of nuclear war. And so, he set about an elaborate and expensive mission to transform his home into a fortress.
His money, personality and growing notoriety online would attract others to his cause. They would also lead to a horrific tragedy.
