Who Do George Clooney & Brad Pitt Really Work For In Wolfs?

Apple TV+’s Wolfs keeps the employer of George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s fixer characters a mystery. The two veteran movie stars lead the Wolfs cast as lone fixers, men who clean up violent crimes for wealthy clients as a profession. The new movie sees both men tasked with the same job, as the District Attorney, Margaret (Amy Ryan), finds herself in a pickle with a presumably dead young man laid out in her hotel room. As they progress through the job, experiencing a variety of twists and turns, they try to piece together a larger puzzle of conspiracy.

The Wolfs ending has Pitt and Clooney’s fixers ending their long night with breakfast at a diner. There, in a shocking last-minute twist, they realize that they’ve been working for the same guy all along. However, the film cuts to the credits shortly after in a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-style shootout, leaving the viewer with more questions than answers. Apple plans to bring filmmaker Jon Watts back with Pitt and Clooney for a Wolfs sequel, meaning there’s plenty of time to theorize about the bigger picture behind all the crime in the first movie.

George Clooney & Brad Pitt Work For The Same Mysterious “Guy”

There’s Someone Pulling The Strings In Wolfs, But Who Is He?

As mentioned, the movie’s ending reveals that Clooney and Pitt’s characters work for the same guy. Just like how the Wolf leads’ names are purposefully left out, the movie doesn’t reveal anything about who their boss is. When reviewing the film, it’s fairly obvious. They both dress similarly, act similarly, and essentially utilize the same methods, so they aren’t stepping on each other’s toes very much. Not to mention, Wolfs introduces audiences to mutual clients like June and Dimitri. The reveal that they work for the same guy isn’t too shocking on second thought.

So, now the question becomes who this mysterious “guy” is. Frances McDormand has a cameo in Wolfs as Pam, but there seems to be someone else pulling the strings who’s kept both Clooney and Pitt’s characters in the dark on a lot of things. These men didn’t know the other one existed and thought they were the only guys on the job. Now, their boss has lined them up to be killed as part of a larger crime, essentially suggesting that he’s gotten his use out of them and now wants to dispose of them. The perfect crime to do this is one that’s a set-up.

Wolfs Hints Clooney & Pitt’s Boss Is Working For The DA

Another crucial aspect of Wolfs’ final scene is that the entire plot was a set-up for Clooney and Pitt’s characters to get taken out. They weren’t supposed to survive the gang shootout with the Albanians, and more gunmen have been sent to finish the job outside the diner. One possibility is that DA Margaret is the real mastermind behind it all and that she hired Clooney and Pitt’s characters through their mutual boss. Her goal could be to stage a massive crime, taking credit for the shootout and the recovery of all the drugs, thus boosting her political standing.

This works quite well in theory. DA Margaret called Clooney and Pitt’s fixer boss to arrange the scenario, and he chose two guys who were essentially expendable. In most cases, their characters would be working to solve actual crimes. Since this one was partially staged, it would be a risk keeping them alive at the end, as they’d be complicit and would likely notice that they’d been set up. The movie hints that their characters are relatively washed up, so it makes sense that their boss would want to replace them with younger, more capable fixers.

There’s Perfect Material For The Sequel Movie

It’s hard to imagine a better ending for a crime saga than taking revenge on the devious boss who’s put them through hell.

Wolfs is interesting to theorize about, but there are still a lot of questions and pieces that don’t exactly fit into the puzzle. It definitely seems like there are layers to the crime that the film doesn’t reveal, and a sequel would be the perfect opportunity to expand on this. On the one hand, there’s some charm to Wolfs being an individual story about these two fixers finding meaning and self-reflection through their joint adventure, but on the other, it’s exciting to see where their story might lead in a follow-up.

A sequel following them as they get revenge on their boss for trying to kill them could satisfy the thematic idea of them retaking control of their lives. Wolfs is about George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s fixers realizing they’ve spent decades living a lie and about them finally meeting another person who understands what they’ve been through.
