‘She fought hard to live’ – Wexford mother-of-five dies tragically from housefire injuries

‘She fought hard to live’ – Wexford mother-of-five dies tragically from housefire injuries

Sheree (Peg) Murray passed away on Thursday, October 17 in the care of the staff at St James’ Hospital Dublin and her family.

A close friend of Ms Murray and of her family, Jane McWilliams, has setup a GoFundMe to relieve the financial pressure of funeral costs for the family.

Ms McWilliams described her friend’s passing as “an unimaginable way” to lose a life.

“Her loss has left her family in shock and grief as they always had hope they could bring her home,” she added.

The GoFundMe has a target of €10,000, of which 313 donations have been made to date, with a total of €8,250 being raised so far.

Ms McWilliams described further on the GoFundMe page what the past few months have been like for the family since Ms Murray sustained her injuries from the blaze: “For the past 76 days she fought hard to live, it has been mentally and emotionally difficult for her family especially her beautiful children that are now left without their Mammy. Her family made the journey to Dublin everyday to be at her side, to support her and hold her, willing her to pull through.

“I am asking now, that we come together to support them during this difficult time, as they navigate the heartache of losing their daughter, sister, mother, aunt. This situation is very sad for everyone, and the family are facing unexpected financial burdens,” she said.

On Sunday, August 4, emergency services arrived at the scene of a significant blaze where there were three occupants in the house at the time, one of them being Ms Murray, where she sustained major burns to her upper body.

Initially Ms Murray was taken to University Hospital Waterford but she was then transferred to Dublin due to the severity of her injuries.

Ms Murray is deeply missed by her children Dylan, Kayla, Josh, Lilly and Leon and she is also missed by her mother Janice, father Aidan, sisters Leeann and Janice, brothers Laurance, Aidan, Ricky and Shane, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral arrangements for Ms Murray will follow at a later time.
