A Macroom man who recently ran the 200km Kerry Way ultramarathon in under 40 hours said he was driven to complete the “gruelling” and “draining” event to motivate his teenage son to break a powerlifting world record.

Charles Murphy (45) completed the mostly off-road long-distance event earlier this month and he told The Corkman that the run, which followed the famous Kerry Way route beginning and ending in Killarney, had a “severe” impact on his body.
