Gardai have arrested a man in his late teens over the fatal hit-and-run which killed a pedestrian in north Dublin in July.

The collision occurred on the coast road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 17.

The victim, 40-year-old pedestrian Michael ‘Mikey’ Farrelly, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Farrelly was killed in the hit-and-run.

It is understood Mr Farrelly was walking to his home when he was struck by a stolen car, a Hyundai Kona.

Gardaí today announced that a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the collision.

“The male juvenile (aged in his late teens) was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin”, a spokesperson said.

“He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office.

A representative said: “The previously arrested individual, a man (aged in his late teens) was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions”.

“Investigations are ongoing”.

On September 10, Gardai arrested a key member of the ‘Lucky Dip’ gang over his alleged involvement in the death of Michael Farrelly.

The arrested teenager was a central member of the so-called ‘Lucky Dip’ gang made up of juveniles and teenage males mainly from the Ballyfermot, Inchicore and Blanchardstown areas.

The ‘Lucky Dip’ group is said to have stolen several dozen automobiles over the past year, mostly for joyrides rather than for resale.

The 18-year old was a part of the car-theft gang causing disruptions in Leinster.

At Mr. Farrelly’s Co Meath funeral, it was revealed that he had recently completed his long-held goal of producing an album of original music.
