Doomsday Debuts Demonic New Form That Will Absolutely Break Superman

The Man of Steel is going to have a lot on his plate when Superman’s old nemesis Doomsday return from the depths of Hell to take him down for good. Clark Kent may have survived Absolute Power, but his torment is just getting started.

Doomsday has survived a lot in his life and even though he’s been cast down into Hell, he’s been determined to break out. After endlessly punching at a wall of damned souls, the dam has finally broke and the monster that once killed Superman is finally on his way back to the mortal realm with a new look that’s absolutely demonic.

Superman writer Joshua Williamson has been teasing Doomsday’s return from Hell for some time now and finally gave fans a sneak peek at the Man of Tomorrow’s next bout with the classic villain. On X, Williamson excitedly shared a two-page spread featuring art from the series newest ongoing artist, Dan Mora. Writing, in part, “DOOMSDAY went to Hell and back for a rematch with the Man of Steel.”, Williamson posted the image that showed Superman reacting to the new and improved version of his old nemesis.

…the hyper-evolved monster is joined by a couple of dog-like monsters…

Doomsday is on the streets of Metropolis, looking more fearsome than ever. In addition to his incredible size, muscles, and spikes, Doomsday is engulfed in flames that spread everywhere around him. He’s also not alone, as the hyper-evolved monster is joined by a couple of dog-like monsters with spiky growths and glowing eyes. Mercy Graves coordinates Superman, who does his best to get as many people as possible to safety while Lois Lane looks on in horror at the chaos.

Superman is Facing the Strongest Doomsday That’s Ever Been

Is Doomsday Going to Kill Superman a Second Time?

For those unaware, Doomsday’s regenerative abilities reached their peak during Lazarus Planet, where it was revealed the beast could come back from something as abstract as memories. However, his spirit was cast down to Hell, ridding the Earth of him once and for all. Unfortunately, Doomsday really took to the underworld and nearly managed to escape before Supergirl and Martian Manhunter convinced thousands of damned souls to build a wall fortified by belief, seemingly trapping Doomsday in Hell forever.

Doomsday’s time in Hell was seen in
Action Comics: Doomsday Special (2023)
!

But as seen in the cliffhanger of the recent Superman #18, Doomsday did the impossible and broke out of Hell. Thanks to the torment of the underworld, he’s been torn apart and come back stronger than ever. And by the looks of the fire surrounding him in Mora’s artwork, Doomsday’s taking back pieces of Hell with him, not to mention those ferocious looking dogs (Hopefully, Krypto’s up for a fight). While Clark has managed to overcome his enemy in the past, is Superman going to be able to take on a Doomsday that’s just survived literal damnation?

…he’s got overwhelmingly powerful and otherworldly firepower at his disposal.

Doomsday was always a challenge, but aside from their first bout, Clark could ultimately handle his enemy. But now Doomsday has more than just a powerful healing factor on his side, he’s got overwhelmingly powerful and otherworldly firepower at his disposal. Superman is the first person to admit he and the supernatural don’t get along. A regular magic user can cause the Man of Steel big problems, but someone with Doomsday’s size and strength? It’s not crazy to think that Doomsday could actually be about to kill Superman once again.

There’s no doubt that this new Doomsday presents a real threat to Superman, but thankfully, Clark won’t be alone. Though not revealed how just yet, Lois Lane is getting superpowers and becoming a new Superwoman, who just may be the secret to defeating this Hell-powered Doomsday. On his own, it’s very unlikely Clark stands a shot at defeating his revived enemy. But with Lois by his side, the two heroes stand a very good chance. Hopefully, their combined strength is enough to take Doomsday down for good.

Superman #19 is available on October 23rd from DC Comics.
