Tony Ward: I was so disappointed with Munster effort in loss to Zebre – it is unacceptable in the modern game

Munster head coach Graham Rowntree has plenty to work on after his side’s defeat to Zebre

While all four provincial teams hit the URC ground with a reasonable degree of intensity off the starting blocks, it was a much more muted return at the second time of asking. Two wins from four is never a stat to sneer at and yet, there was a general feeling of under-performance – with Connacht’s second-half comeback at the Dexcom Stadium the most redeeming feature.

Already Leinster top the table with a maximum return of 10 from 10. They put away the Dragons as expected with a mundane first half followed by a much more efficient second. To transform the narrow half-time lead (10-6) with a second-half 24-pointer without reply was emphatic, but they know that even with the bulk of the shadow squad in action they can perform much better than that.
