Agri-food exports break record in 2023, exceed 51 billion dollars: Agriculture – El Financiero

At the end of 2023, Mexico’s agri-food exports broke a new record, totaling 51,874 million dollars, an increase of 3.9 percent compared to 2022, while imports fell 0.07 percent, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In this way, he said, the agricultural and agroindustrial trade balance recorded a surplus of seven thousand 576 million dollars, a figure higher by one thousand 976 million dollars compared to the previous year, an increase of 35.28 percent and the third highest figure in 31 years.

The head of Agriculture, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, He highlighted that foreign sales of Mexican foods exceeded the barrier of 50 billion dollars for the first time, which contributes to economic dynamics, job creation and the arrival of foreign currency, without neglecting the national supply.

This figure, he added, was driven by the work of the productive sector and value chains and by the support of public goods such as the National Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality Service (Senasica) and commercial strategies implemented by Agriculture, to seek new markets for national producers.

In the preliminary results presented by the Secretariat, based on data from the Bank of Mexico, the agri-food trade of our country with the world in 2023 totaled 96,171 million dollars, where 54 percent corresponded to national exports.

While, agricultural and agroindustrial imports They presented a decrease of -0.07 percent compared to those registered in the same period of the previous year, totaling 44 thousand 297 million dollars.

Agriculture stressed that the trade balance of agroindustrial products reached six thousand 911 million dollars, an increase of 16.01 percent compared to the immediately previous year. Exports reached 30,089 million dollars and imports 23,178 million dollars.

While the agricultural and fishing trade balance during 2023 increased in exports, adding 21,784 million dollars, and a reduction in imports, which added 21,119 million dollars, thus resulting in a positive trade balance of 665 million Dollars.

He indicated that beverages, vegetables and fruits were the main export groups, concentrating 59 percent, with 23 percent, 19 percent and 17 percent participation, respectively.

The greatest increases were observed in cattle exports, with 63.11 percent; preparations of coffee, tea or yerba mate, 36.93 percent; grapes, fresh or dried, raisins, 35.71 percent; vegetables prepared in vinegar, 21.98 percent, and sauces, seasonings and condiments, 16.68 percent.

The national products with the highest value in exports during 2023 were beer, six thousand 163 million dollars; tequila and mezcal, four thousand 429 million dollars; fresh or refrigerated tomato, three thousand 048 million dollars; avocado, three thousand 030 million dollars, and bakery products, two thousand 642 million dollars.
