Elections and constitutional reforms – El Financiero

This Monday the celebration of the 107th anniversary of the promulgation of the 1917 Constitution will be without the presence of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, because he decided, instead of attending the Theater of the Republic in the historic City of Querétaro, to present before the media of communication a package of reform initiatives to our Magna Carta that will be sent to the legislative branch.

The president has decided to continue the implementation of his plan ‘C’ and not give respite to his adversaries or to the Judicial Branch of the federation, which, in his opinion, requires a profound transformation that includes the popular election of ministers, circuit magistrates, district judges, magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation and even the members of its administrative and disciplinary bodies.

As he noted in his morning remarks, the package will also include proposals for modifications to the minimum wage, the pension system and, again, the electoral system; and as strange and unprecedented as it may seem, it will do so in the middle of the inter-campaign, less than a month before the start of the campaigns. Behind the decision to advance the presentation, originally announced for September, is the president’s evident resistance to disappearing from the political scene, his intention to maintain the centrality that he has cultivated all these years, even above the competing candidates, is clear. to relieve him, including that of Claudia Sheinbaum.

The president wants to continue imposing the agenda for public debate and, in the process, limit his candidate so that, if he wins the election, he does not deviate from the program he designed for Q4. Needless to say, he knows that not all of his proposals will reach the qualified majorities required for his approval, so the refusals of the parliamentary groups of the opposition parties will serve for the president to display them to the voters. .

Starting today, we will be busy reviewing the package of distractions designed by the president
so that the campaigns are dominated by the poll numbers that favor his transexennial plan and so that the questions that his government faces due to the incidence of organized crime groups and the recent journalistic investigations that point to the possible financing of the Sinaloa cartel are diluted. in his 2006 campaign and the possible corruption of family members and officials on his team, which are opening a hole in the legitimacy and credibility of the president who refuses to make the necessary clarifications and take legal actions to clean up his public image.

The package of constitutional reform initiatives condenses the electoral strategy of the 4T and seeks to atomize the efforts of the opposition parties, which remain busy in the distribution of candidates, instead of supporting the strengthening of the ties of their candidate with the organizations of the civil society that generated the pink tide and took over the street in defense of democracy and its institutions.

The interventionism of public servants commanded by the president of the republic lights up a beacon of alarm in an electoral process severely threatened by organized crime and by the erratic behavior of the authorities who, instead of combating it, seek to take their toll on the judicial power that He does his job and, in doing so, unleashes the wrath of the president and all his followers.
