Rio – Striker for Fluminense’s under-17 team, Matheus Reis was the big news on the squad list released last weekend by the Mexican under-18 team. The 16-year-old player, born in Mexico City, will wear his country’s shirt for the first time.

Matheus is the son of Brazilians and has been called up to Brazil’s youth teams. Last season, the young man faced Mexico in a friendly to prepare for the South American Championship, won by the Seleção.

“It’s an inexplicable feeling to be called up for the first time to the Mexican national team. I’m very happy with the opportunity to see new surroundings and learn a lot about a new culture. God willing, I hope to do great training, play well in the friendly and be happy while be there, living this experience”, celebrated Matheus.
