There will be a general government surplus in the region of €25bn this year, Finance Minister Jack Chambers said.

This will include the Apple Tax windfall money, though Minister Chambers said that the exchequer will only receive €8bn this year.

It comes as the Department of Finance publishing its annual ‘White Paper’ ahead of the Budget, which provides estimates of Ireland’s receipts and expenditure for the coming year.

Each year, the Department of Finance publishes Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure for the following year in advance of the Budget.

The White Paper, as it is called, provides the expenditure and revenue forecasts that underpin the Budget.

It will be published by Minister Chambers and Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe this afternoon.
