One dedicated fan has recreated Zelda’s outfit from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in intricate detail, with one particular nod being nothing short of perfect. Zelda’s design from TOTK isn’t the most elaborate, as the princess has previously been depicted in flowing dresses with long locks. In TOTK, however, the beloved Legend of Zelda character shows up with her hair in a short bob and a more streamlined dress design.
In spite of, or maybe because of the design’s simplicity, it’s been difficult for cosplayers to get all the details correct. Cosplayer grumpybonescosplay on Reddit gets the design just right, however, down to the smallest detail. The incredible outfit is entirely handmade by the cosplayer, and features Zelda in her short white dress with signature green front and bottom panels. The cosplayer also wears a perfectly styled wig, wraparound, and sandals, and carries a replica of the Master Sword. The design is beautifully made and a faithful recreation of the game’s princess.
Why This Zelda TOTK Cosplay Design Is So Special
Every Single Detail Was Hand-Made
Every part of the cosplay outfit, except for the wig, was handmade by the cosplayer. The pieces were sewn while partially following patterns but modified heavily. The lining was sewn on partially by hand, for more control over fit and shape.
Grumpybonescosplay changed every piece of the pattern to get the best fit and create the most accurate representation of the game’s dress. The fabric is a mix of silk and, according to the creator, is as soft as it appears in Grumpybonescosplay‘s Instagram pictures.
The most complex part of the outfit is the print down the front of the dress, which displays a detailed pattern. Grumpybonescosplay recreated this with 290 hand-made beads made of Polymer clay. The signature circlet crown was also sculpted by hand from clay.
This cosplay isn’t just good, it’s critically acclaimed: Grumpybonescosplay entered it into the Rose City Comic Con cosplay competition, and has previously placed high in Oregon’s Kumoricon.

This Design Is One Of The Best In Years
Princess Zelda has always been a staple of the Zelda franchise as the titular character. Even though Zelda hasn’t usually been the focus of the games – at least until the recently-released Echoes of Wisdom – she’s played a critical role in every single one of the games she’s appeared in.
All her designs are iconic and instantly recognizable, but the TOTK version of the princess might be my favorite. This cosplay perfectly captures the mix of femininity and strength that the TOTK princess embodies. The cosplayer has hinted at an upgraded version of the outfit, which will include shoes cobbled together by hand. I, for one, can’t wait to see how they improve on the design.
Princess Zelda’s look from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is difficult to recreate accurately, and Grumpybonescosplay does an amazing job at it. It also comes at a perfect time, since Zelda has finally gotten her own game with Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
