Medeama defeated us on fair grounds – Hearts of Oak’s Caleb Amankwah deny match of convenience claims

Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah has denied reports that his outfit played a match of convenience against Medeama in the Ghana Premier League.

The Yellow and Mauve swept aside the Premier League giants at the Accra Sports Stadium as they leapfrogged Aduana to reach the summit of the league standings.

The Tarkwa-based club inflicted an emphatic 5-1 win over the Phobians to go top of the table after 31 matches.

Medeama shot into the lead through Derrick Fordjour in the 17th minute but the Phobians restored parity through a Salifu Ibrahim spot kick on 31 minutes.

The visitors scored two additional goals through Vincent Atinga and Jonathan Sowah as they went to recess with a 3-1 advantage.

After the break, Jonathan Sowah and Kwesi Donsu found the back of the net again to seal a comfortable 5-1 win.

Speaking to Oyerepa FM, the former Aduana Stars defender rubbished reports that they played a match of convenience against Medeama, saying they lost on a fair grounds.

“Claims that we were influenced by money or played a match of convenience can never be true.”

“Hearts of Oak is a big club and as a player, you cannot invite problems for yourself and a big club as such by playing a match of compromise.”

No one said anything to us before or after the game to influence us, they defeated us on fair grounds”,

The Phobians are 7th on the league standings on 45 points, 8 points behind new leaders Medeama.
