The legendary skier also holds the record for the most career World Cup skiing wins with 88.
Mikaela Shiffrin’s historic season came to a close Sunday, but not before she added another record to her already-impressive résumé.
Shiffrin won the giant slalom at the World Cup finals in Soldeu, Andorra, marking her 21st career victory in the discipline, breaking a tie with former Swiss skier Vreni Schneider for the most all-time giant slalom wins by a woman.
Last weekend, Shiffrin became the winningest skier in World Cup history when she broke the record of longtime Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark with her 87th career title. Now, with Sunday’s victory, she boasts 88 career wins. Back in January, Shiffrin broke Lindsey Vonn’s record for the most World Cup skiing victories by a woman.
As of now, Shiffrin doesn’t think she’ll stop competing anytime soon. After Sunday’s win, she was asked how many wins she think she’ll capture before she retires.
“I don’t have a guess at how many,” Shiffrin said, via The Associated Press. “Sometimes a part of me feels like that’s always my last victory. I hope not. I keep heading for more.”
