Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange rain warning for Cork and Waterford this Sunday as heavy rain is set to sweep the region.

The forecaster warned of a risk of flooding, dangerous driving conditions and poor visibility on the roads as heavy rain will hit the two counties.

The warning is valid from noon on Sunday until midnight.

It comes as Met Éireann has issued a separate Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford that is valid from midnight on Saturday until midnight Sunday.

The forecaster said there will be persistent rain for this period in those seven counties that will be heavy at times.

It will bring a risk of some localised flooding, poor visibility on the roads and difficult travelling conditions.
