Paddington and Paddington 2 have earned the top spot for wholesome, family-friendly content, but part of the franchise’s mass appeal is its ability to provide enjoyment to anyone of any age. That’s not to say these movies are only suited to light entertainment, as there are a good number of moments that evoke tremendously strong emotions for the little bear. Much of this is owed to the stories set in motion by the villains, with Paddington in Peru on track to follow the same course.
The villain in any Paddington movie is what advances the plot and provides high levels of amusement, which helps to make the antagonists all the more likable, despite their bad intent. This is the case for Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant respectively, although the latter goes beyond all expectations in his role as Phoenix Buchanan. It’s only reasonable to assume that the third Paddington movie will have a similar inclination, as Olivia Colman appears to be Paddington 3’s latest villain. In the wake of this, it seems obvious that Jeff Goldblum should be the villain of Paddington 4.

The Paddington villains possess a natural quirk which is vital for the role, as is the ability to comfortably contribute a distinctive flair to the project. Hugh Grant’s villain in Paddington 2, Phoenix Buchanan perhaps demonstrates this the most, specifically in the end credits of “Rain on the Roof”, but it’s clear that the Paddington movies provide a framework for the actors to amplify when conceptualizing their own villain. Jeff Goldblum is not one to shy away from a challenge, particularly one that demands a blend of whimsy and confidence, which is obvious in his roles such as Thor: Ragnarok.
Truthfully, Thor: Ragnarok‘s Grandmaster is more depraved than what a Paddington villain may require, but his charismatic humor is an element that would certainly translate well to the role. One of the highlights of Paddington 2 is Grant’s zany humor, as well as his mastery of accents. Buchanan performs inner dialogue through the costumes of characters in his one-man show, and it’s extraordinarily peculiar and amusing. It would be thrilling to see Goldblum in a similar role, where he’s given full scope to take advantage of his quirky nature, as the Paddington villains are most successful when left to their own devices.

Fellow star Paul Rudd has commented on Goldblum, ” […] whatever it is that he’s saying that makes you want to enjoy the joke as much as he seems to be enjoying himself. He’s so engaged and alive in the moment.” Goldblum’s ease of connecting with people, as well as his natural charisma, would be a great asset to Paddington 4.
