Is Cutzamala approaching ‘Day Zero’? This is the level of their prey

Meanwhile, Conagua reported that the dams that feed the Cutzamala System fell to 36.2 percent of their capacityaccording to data obtained until March 18.

Citlalli Elizabeth Peraza Camacho, general director of the Aguas del Valle de México Basin Organization (OCAVM), assured at a press conference of the Technical Committee for the Operation of Hydraulic Works that they are already working in new sources of water supplyincluding the well drilling.

However, this decrease occurs at 98 days until the Cutzamala reaches its minimum operating levelaccording to Conagua projections, that is, the so-called ‘day zero’in which the water supply will ultimately be insufficient to supply the entire population.

The main Cutzamala damswhich supply at least a quarter of the drinking water consumed by the Valley of Mexicocurrently registers the following levels:

  • The El Bosque dam It has the best storage with 115 million cubic meters.
  • The Valle de Bravo Dam It has a storage of 113 million cubic meters.
  • The Villa Victoria Dam is the one with the smallest catchment, since it only houses 54.5 million cubic meters.

The General Technical Subdirectorate of Conagua, for its part, reported that the filling level of the 210 main dams in Mexicowhich together have the capacity to store 92 percent of the water in the country’s reservoirs, fell from 48 percent reported last Tuesday to 47 percent.

The above, because its total volume went from 60 thousand 728 million cubic meters (Mm3) to 59 thousand 467 Mm3.
