TikTok’s ‘Armada’ will monitor disinformation due to the elections; activates 40 thousand security experts – El Financiero

The Chinese entertainment platform TikTok will monitor content related to the 2024 elections in Mexico through 40,000 moderators, who will seek to eliminate content that incites misinformation from the platform.

“We have 40,000 security experts, in addition to collaboration with various public and private organizations that are helping us detect inappropriate and disinformation content within our platform,” he commented. Edgar Rodríguez, Director of Public Affairs at TikTok Latin America.

He added that thanks to the team of experts, in the first quarter more than 2 million pieces of content were removed, which, although not all of them were related to political misinformation, violated community standards.

In addition to moderation, the platform does not have advertising guidelines related to political content, while it does not allow content creators to monetize content related to political content. electoral information.

“We consider that this type of advertising does not allow our users to have the inclusive, authentic and creative experience that we have strived to provide every day,” added Edgar Rodríguez.

At the moment, TikTok is the platform with the highest number of users in Mexicoas well as one of the favorites of 95 percent of Mexicans who have a smartphone with internet access to consume audiovisual content.


According to the National Survey of Audiovisual Content Consumption (ENCCA) 2023, prepared by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), 84 percent of Mexicans who used the internet did so to view content on social networks.

By taking a close look at the social media and instant messaging platforms that Mexicans used the most in 2023, it was found that 86 percent corresponds to WhatsApp, 70 percent to Facebook, 39 to YouTube, 33 to TikTok, and 32 percent to Facebook Messenger.

In 2021, TikTok had just 4 percent of the preferences of Mexican users, by 2022 the platform grew 18 percentage points and by 2023 the Chinese platform grew 11 percentage points more, reaching 33 percent of preferences, being the fastest growing platform in the country during the last two years.
