New Owner of Matthew Perry’s Home Performs Pooja and Promises to Keep Feature in Pool Where the Star Died

Celebrity

Here’s what the new owner of Matthew Perry’s home has said about something remaining exactly where the late actor had it.

When he was found dead Friends star Matthew Perry was in the pool of his Pacific Palisades home. Days before the first anniversary of his Oct. 28 death, the actor’s house was sold and while the new owner will undoubtedly put their own touch on the property, she promised to keep one feature Perry had in the pool declaring: “It’s definitely staying.”

Read on to find out what that is.

Who purchased Perry’s home and what is pooja?

Perry’s former residence was purchased by real estate developer and film producer Anita Verma-Lallian for $8.5 million. The home has 3,500 square feet of living space with four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. Some of its amenities include a fire pit, covered patios, a chef’s kitchen, several floor-to-ceiling windows boasting stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding area, a built-in wine wall, and an inground pool and spa.

The Times of India noted that Verma-Lallian performed pooja at the property. She shared images outside the abode with a lengthy caption on Instagram that read in part: “The moment I walked into the home, I absolutely fell in love with the features, especially the view of the Pacific Ocean. We knew it was ‘the one’ and decided to write an offer on it immediately.

“As a real estate developer myself, I believe every property has a history that we may or may not know about, and every home carries the energy that the current owner brings to it.  I am Hindu, and it’s customary to do a blessing and prayer anytime you buy a new home. We were so lucky to have our Panditji from Arizona come to the house to do the blessing.”

Pooja or puja is a form of worship in Hinduism involving offerings to deities. According to the University of Idaho, pooja “can consist of meditation, austerity, chanting, often with japa beads (mantra), scripture reading, offering food, and prostrations.” It’s performed both in homes and in temples.

New owners will maintain Perry’s legacy by leaving this in the pool

Verma-Lallian also explained how she will preserve Perry’s legacy.

She wrote: “We chose to honor the positive aspects of the previous owner’s life, his immense talent, and all the joy he brought to so many people. The decision to purchase the home had nothing to do with the previous owner, just our love of the home.”

As for what feature isn’t going anywhere, Verma-Lallian said: “We do plan to keep some of the design elements. The Batman logo in the pool is definitely staying.”

She added that she “can’t wait to make new memories in the house” which she and her family will be using as a vacation property, exclaiming: “It’s a piece of paradise that is filled with light and the perfect vacation home for us. Can’t wait to make new memories in it.”

Verma-Lallian concluded her post by wishing her followers a “very Happy Diwali!! May the new year be flowing with peace, joy, and prosperity.”
