The Denver Broncos came into Week 10’s matchup against the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs hoping to become the first team in the league this season to win over the defending Super Bowl champions.
Fortunately for Denver, the defense was firing on all cylinders on Sunday on the road at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, as they were able to put constant pressure on superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Heading toward the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, the Broncos were in position to kick a game-winning field goal with time expiring to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the 2024 campaign.
However, the Chiefs proved resilient as they were able to block Wil Lutz’s attempt to seal the deal with time expiring, resulting in the Broncos going home empty-handed after being poised to pull off the upset over their division rivals.
After the game, running back Audric Estime talked about the disappointing last-second loss to the Chiefs and how head coach Sean Payton let it be known this was one of the toughest losses of his NFL coaching career.
“Everyone knows Sean. He’s been around this league for a while, and he has a lot of wins, and he also has some tough losses. He said this was one of the toughest losses he’s played, but it is one of those games where you played a tough team, and we have to come back next week and keep swinging,” Estime said.

Although this is a tough loss to swallow, the Broncos are still playing better than expected this season and could make the NFL playoffs, as they are currently sporting a record of 5-5.
In Week 11, the Broncos will attempt to bounce back from consecutive losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Chiefs by hosting the Atlanta Falcons in Denver.
