Fairy Tail has truly proven to be a worldwide sensation, captivating even the Western anime fans and cementing it as a modern classic. While there are several key factors that can be attributed to its high-level success, one stands one quite obviously. Of course, its well-polished animation was one of the major reasons behind the series’ initial success.
Although the manga has a truly gorgeous art style, and the early seasons of Fairy Tail also had really good animation, now with 100-Year Quest, things are looking a bit rough around the edges. To further continue Fairy Tail’s legacy, Hiro Mashima needs to come up with a solution as soon as possible.
The Underwhelming Animation in Fairy Tail: 100-Year Quest Really Took a Toll on The Fans
The release of Fairy Tail: 100-Year Quest hasn’t really been a very uplifting thing, mainly because of its poor animation. It is as if the whole art direction went through a massive change in style from what it used to be. But unfortunately, this new style doesn’t seem to connect well with fans, claiming that they are no longer charming, unlike in the old show.
One of the defining aspects of the original Fairy Tail was its sharp, vibrant art style, masterfully bringing out the raw emotions of its characters. The latest animation direction simply cannot compare and seems to lack the liveliness, making the characters look somewhat dull and lifeless. The lack of artistic depth, along with expressive character designs have certainly disappointed fans who used to initially cherish the series.

This 2024 art style of Fairy Tail is kind of similar to the common isekai modern anime staple, that fails to deliver anything but an overly familiar and unoriginal visual experience. Fans are quite literally mourning over this loss of visual individualism that was so crucial to the series’ initial wide appeal.
Only Mashima Can Save The Future of Fairy Tail!
Despite the disappointing animation in Fairy Tail: 100-Year Quest, hopeful fans are still holding onto the comeback hope for the series. Now the only way to reinvigorate the glory of Fairy Tail is Hiro Mashima, the creator of this famous franchise. Since this man is the brain behind this idea, he would have the highest authority to change the current course of the anime, and make it look as appealing as the manga.
Mashima himslef said that he wants to make more of Fairy Tail , along with other spin-off series, making it clear that it would get further anime/manga adaptations. And with the anime adaptation of 100-Year Quest, this further solidifies this believe. Facing this crucial aspect head-on will force Mashima to somehow revive the franchise and restore its right to be considered one of the modern anime classics.
