The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback carousel continues to spin as Anthony Richardson returns to the starting role, marking the end of Joe Flacco’s brief stint under center.
Richardson’s self-removal during Week 8 had initially raised questions about his leadership, leading to Flacco taking the reins for Weeks 9 and 10.
Now, with another change at quarterback, Flacco reflected candidly on his recent performances.
In a locker room conversation captured by The Athletic’s James Boyd, Flacco acknowledged the constant scrutiny that comes with playing in the NFL.
“I think every time you take the field in this league, you’re being evaluated,” Flacco said, expressing his disappointment with the past two weeks’ outcomes.
The veteran quarterback spoke about the weight of responsibility he felt toward his teammates. Stepping into a locker room filled with players he respects drove his desire to perform at his best.
However, Flacco admitted falling short of his own expectations. “You want to be able to really, really hold your head high and feel like you’ve done the best for the team,” he reflected, “and I didn’t necessarily feel like I did that.”
I asked #Colts QB Joe Flacco if he thinks his recent play factored into him being benched for Anthony Richardson:

Flacco’s journey with the Colts began promisingly. After stepping in during Week 4 to secure a victory against the Steelers following Richardson’s injury, he posted a respectable 1-1 record as starter.
His initial stint showed promise, with seven touchdowns against just one interception and a single fumble.
This solid performance convinced coach Steichen to give him another opportunity when Richardson struggled in the Week 8 loss to the Texans.
However, Flacco’s second run as a starter proved less successful.
The turning point came during Sunday’s game against the Bills, where his very first play resulted in a pick-six, setting a disappointing tone for what would become his final start before Richardson’s reinstatement.
