EXCLUSIVE: Squid Game’s Wi Ha Joon on his character’s arc in Season 2

South Korean star Wi Ha Joon is set to return as police officer Hwang Jun Ho for the second season of Squid Game. The survival-thriller series will see Gi Hun and a bunch of new contestants enter the deadly games, risking it all for a huge cash prize. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, the actor hinted at Jun Ho’s complex, emotional layers.

Opening up about his character’s journey in the Netflix series, Wi Ha Jun shared, “In Season 2, my character Jun Ho was faced with the grand reveal that the Front Man was indeed his big brother. He survived all these different odds so he had all this fear and rage inside him.”

He added, “I tried my best to give a very detailed and nuanced portrayal of him with all these different emotions swirling inside.”

Season 1 ended on an interesting note for Hwang Jun Ho who finds out that his brother is the Front Man. In a stand-off, Jun Ho gets shot and falls off a cliff. Meanwhile, after winning the game, Gi Hun is on his way to the U.S. where his daughter and ex-wife migrated. However, when he finds out that the games are still underway, he turns back and resolves to bring those responsible to justice.

Squid Game which also features Lee Byung Hun, Gong Yoo and others, is set to release on December 26, 2024.
