Aka Akasaka has contributed immensely to the seinen genre through his mangas. Apart from being bestsellers, both manga have impacted readers worldwide. But that is not all, considering the positive reception of his works.
Be it Kaguya-Sama: Love is War or Oshi no Ko, both works have stood out in terms of their storytelling. However, they have their fair share of pitfalls that had fans worried. Â
With his latest project, fans expressed their contention. This has mostly to do with his previous works, but there’s more to it.
Although promising, this raises several questions regarding its coherence. It also doesn’t negate their indelible ending, which left an incorrigible blot on their fame.
Aka Akasaka’s latest project has fans divided
From the Idol Industry to Love Wars, Aka Akasaka has a diverse portfolio of works. This is especially true with his contribution to the seinen genre. Be it the romance or idol industry, the mangaka explores a wide variety of themes in his works.
His extensive research and exploration outline the psyche and behavior of humankind. From obsession to murder, he outlines disturbing aspects of human behavior in his stories. It is clear in his seinen masterpiece Oshi-no-Ko! And there’s more to it.
His take on the seinen genre distinguishes him in more ways than one. The seinen manga Kaguya Sama highlighted psychological principles intermingled with romance.
On the other hand, Oshi no Ko explored unsettling themes of powerplay. As a versatile mangaka, he is set to explore the fantasy genre with his recent project. This, however, did not sit well with fans.

Although extreme, the response isn’t surprising. Especially when it comes to the manga’s indelible endings.
Oshi no ko and Kaguya-Sama: Love is War’s indelibility
Oshi no Ko and Kaguya- Sama: Love is War stand incorrigible through their slipshod endings. While both series are remarkable in the seinen genre, their endings fell flat immensely. Both started out great in terms of their premise and themes.
Kaguya Sama is often hailed as a masterpiece that toppled the tropes of romance. Through psychology and slow-burn romance, Akasaka reinstated our faith in love stories. Oshi no Ko made an impact on young readers through its exploration of the entertainment industry.
Despite their compelling and enthralling plotlines, both series failed immensely. With their horrid and haphazard endings, it left an indelible mark on the audience.
This is especially the case with Oshi no Ko and its rushed ending. The manga ending in 2 chapters was beyond disastrous. The closure is regarded by several fans as inconclusive. The same goes for Kaguya Sama which hooked readers but fell flat in the end.
Unsurprisingly, the fans are extremely disappointed with Akasaka and his lack of breaks. While the project seems promising, fans and their anger is justified.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War is available for reading on Viz. Oshi no Ko is available for reading on Manga Plus. Both series are available for streaming on Netflix.
