When the New York Jets traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the 2023 offseason, they dreamed of winning the Super Bowl for the first time since the days of Joe Namath, and plenty of people believed that dream had a real chance of coming true.
But last season quickly turned into a disaster when Rodgers tore his Achilles on their first offensive series of Week 1, and this season has been even worse in some ways.
Rodgers has been healthy, but they have a 3-7 record through Week 10, compared to the 4-6 record they had last year after 10 games.
In the minds of many, he is a significant reason the Jets are struggling, and Nick Wright said on “What’s Wright? with Nick Wright” that the time has come for them to cut Rodgers, who has one year left on his contract, and that the 40-year-old is squarely to blame for their problems.
“Aaron Rodgers retiring has nothing to do with the fact they’ve gotta cut him. He’s a bad, aging, injured, distracted player who has sucked all of the life out of that building.”

Wright also said that when the Jets undergo a search for their next non-interim head coach, having Rodgers around for another year would likely prevent the best candidates from wanting to apply for the job.
While he remains one of the best quarterbacks the NFL has seen over the last 15 years or so, it is beyond clear that he is over the hill at this point.
So far this season, he has completed just 62.4 percent of his pass attempts, and his passing numbers (2,258 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns) are misleading.
In addition, many feel he played a role in the firing of Robert Saleh as head coach, and since that firing, New York’s defense, which was supposed to be elite, has faltered.
