In many ways, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs has gotten better in his second season.
But in some ways, he has gotten worse and there are troubling trends in his game.
Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Gerald Brown said that Wembanyama is not using his size advantage and is relying too much on taking three-pointers during games.
He said the Spurs need to break Wembanyama of this habit and insist that he use his size and strength more, get into the paint, and remain low in the post for the majority of the game.
“You cannot win on a consistent basis…shooting threes,” Brown said.

The talented big man is scoring 22.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game.
As for three-pointers, he is landing 2.9 of his 8.6 attempts per game.
That is a lot of three-point shots and it is hurting his offensive output.
His 33.9 three-point percentage proves that Wembanyama isn’t explosive from beyond the arc.
There may come a point in his career when he gets better with three-pointers but his reliance on attempting these shots is harming the Spurs.
Because of his size and length, he should try to make his way into the basket more often and dominate teams that way
According to Brown, Wembanyama’s priorities are in the wrong place and the Spurs should consider making him change.
You can’t blame Wembanyama for putting up shots from downtown because just the other night he went 50% from the three-point line.
He has talent from that part of the court but it’s just not enough, at least right now.
