Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise has been present for four long decades and has grown to be one of the most popular series. The layered character sketch and the constantly growing world have added to the title’s allure and made it all the more popular.
Since the show has been present for so long, numerous questions about the characters among the fans are present. Dragon Ball DAIMA, the newest addition to the franchise, tends to deviate from the old series and go back to focus more on the story, which was originally done with the first series.
However, it also tends to focus on answering the fans’ questions in each of its episodes, where the recent episode focused on answering the origin of the Kais, who look over the mortal world; some even playing a key role in the story of the series.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Answers the Origin of the Kais
In the ever-expansive world of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball, he has introduced a long list of characters who are either villains turned heroes or someone who is shrouded in mystery. Supreme Kai, who was introduced during the Buu Saga, fits in the latter, where fans thought of him as a skeptical personality who is probably an agent of chaos.
The perspective changed when it was unveiled that he was a Supreme Kai and is there to stop Majin Buu from getting resurrected. Later, in the Z series, he became a part of the main cast and has been quite popular among the fandom. However, one question about the character kept lingering in the minds of the fans, that is, the origin behind the character.
A content creator (@SmugStick) shared on their YouTube channel, where they mention how Akira Toriyama had already answered this question in the Super Exciting Guide Book, that “they are all born from the Kaiju tree.”
This question was also answered in Episode 6 of Dragon Ball DAIMA, which adapted and expanded the lore, where fans learned that their race is called the Glind.
The episode further showcased that they come from the second Demon World, where they have five trees, whereas Glinds being born from the same trees are considered to be siblings. Unlike human beings, this mysterious race is born every few centuries, each having a lifespan of about 75,000 years.
The newborns grow up in a castle-like school, and when Kai dies, a new one replaces them, who is selected via lottery. Unlike what is being showcased, how some Kais are feminine, they are gender neutral. The creator also stated that the manga artist explained how the ones born from the Golden Fruit are chosen to be Supreme Kai, while those born from the ordinary fruit bear become Kaios like North Kai.
Nevertheless, DAIMA deviated a little, where they showcased how these creatures are the fruit themselves and live on a planet that heavily resembled Planet Namek, next to their spaceships. This revelation blew away the minds of the fans, as they left their say in the comment section of the video.
Dragon Ball Fans React to the Origin of Supreme Kai
Despite Toriyama-Sensei answering the question ages ago, DAIMA adapting the idea and giving the tale its unique twist was something interesting and answered the question, but that does not mean that the community is convinced.
The fandom is divided, where some add to the theory, while some outright reject what the series showcased in its recent episode. They commented,

I hope we get more lore about how “glinds” became the creator gods of every universe in the Dragon ball multiverse and how the hell the grand supreme Kai fought Moro 10 million years ago if their lifespan is supposedly just 75k years. And why is zamasu so racist against mortals if glinds were originally mortals from the second demon world? Does he not know about that? If so, why does shin know about it and not zamasu. All this just opens up a whole lot of plot holes if you ask me.”
@LilT2o00 commented, “This makes no sense. So gods just didn’t exist before the Glinds migrated from the demon realm? Especially considering the coincidence that this happened in all 12 universes. Beerus/Whis aren’t a thing yet since this takes place before super, but this is an origin story is lame and makes no sense. “The universes all imported their gods from the demon realm” makes 0 sense lore-wise”

@insanemakaioshin commented, “They apparently can reproduce through other ways, because the Old Kai is very lustful. That implies a form of se**al reproduction. Dabura & his sister, Towa, are implied to be Glind in the Xenoverse games and Towa was impregnated.”
Nevertheless, DAIMA has been doing a great job in bringing forth the storytelling aspect of the show, which would remind the fans of the mangaka and his Dragon Ball series that was aired all the way back in 1986.
