Suriya and Bobby Deol’s Kanguva had a decent start at the Indian box office. The Tamil reincarnation drama has been directed by Koratala Siva and is said to be made on an estimated budget of over Rs 350 crore. The film marked Suriya’s best-ever opening at the box office and collected approximately Rs 22 crore on its first day. On the second day, the Tamil version earned Rs 3.24 crore. The Tamil net collection now stands at Rs 18.14 crore. On the other hand, the Telugu version and the Hindi version minted Rs 1.7 crore and 2.49 crore respectively on day 2. With that, the India net collection has crossed Rs 31.43 crore. Overseas, it has earned over Rs 10 crore.
While Kanguva now faces a competition from Vikrant Massey’s The Sabarmati Report, the weekend provides a good chance to the film to improve its collection.
Kanguva has been receiving a lot of praises for its VFX, action scenes and the cast. Suriya plays the titular character, who is a tribal warrior prince and his reincarnation who is a bounty hunter in Goa. The makers hired experts from Hollywood for the technical departments like action and cinematography. Kanguva also stars Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley and Kovai Sarala among others.
