The NFC North, as some expected, is arguably the toughest division in the NFL, and there are three teams that have a real chance to finish in first place.

The Green Bay Packers were picked by some to win the division when the season started after the outstanding fashion in which they finished last season, but even though they have a strong 6-3 record, they’re only in third place.

After losing to the Detroit Lions, who are in first place, and then having their bye, they will visit the division-rival Chicago Bears in Week 11.

Heading toward the matchup, Packers rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd came down with a case of appendicitis and will require an appendectomy.

The setback comes after he recently recovered from hamstring and hip injuries that have limited him to one game in his rookie campaign.

“Since Lloyd’s 21-day practice window opened already and an appendectomy usually requires several weeks recovery, the Packers are talking to the NFL to see if there’s a way he can still play later on,” Rob Demovsky of ESPN wrote on X.

Lloyd played in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts, when he had 15 rushing yards on six attempts and one reception for three yards.

He was a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after two years at the University of South Carolina and the 2023 campaign at the University of Southern California.

In 2023, he posted 820 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns while adding 13 receptions for 232 yards.

The Packers will next host the San Francisco 49ers, and in Week 14 will visit the Lions in a game that could determine whether the have any real shot at winning the NFC North this season.
