Bromley boss blasts ‘moment of madness’ in Carlisle United draw

Bromley boss Andy Woodman blasted Lewis Leigh for the red card “moment of madness” that cost his side against Carlisle United.

The home sub was dismissed for elbowing Blues captain Sam Lavelle in the 83rd minute as United fought back for a 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane.

And Woodman said Leigh had let his team-mates down for the loss of discipline which came just 13 minutes after he had come off the Ravens bench.

“It looked like we were going to get the three points then there was that moment of madness from Lewis Leigh…I don’t know what he’s thinking there to be honest,” said the Bromley manager.

“No complaints from me for the referee for what he did there. And it kills us.

“It’s not easy hanging on with ten men when balls are coming in the box and everyone’s putting themselves on the line.

“We didn’t deal with the throw particularly well, which disappoints me, and they [Carlisle] get a scrappy goal.

“We can’t keep making these ill-disciplined decisions and it’s more frustration from the rest of the group. They felt we’d got to grips with the game in the second half.

“You get in front, bring on a sub to get on the ball and get us playing a bit better, and Lewis does that…he’s let us all down today.

“Without sounding crazy I believe we just need that kick-start and you won’t get that without being disciplined and keeping 11 players on the pitch.”

Bromley took the lead early in the second half through Michael Cheek’s penalty, before Daniel Adu-Adjei struck in added time for the Blues.

The EFL new boys dropped a place to 20th, still four points above the second-bottom Cumbrians, after United denied them a second home win of the league campaign.

“It’s frustration on numerous levels,” added Woodman in a club interview.

“I thought in the first half we were hunting in the wrong sort of numbers and we were getting played around too easily.

“We changed it at half-time and I thought we came out and looked much better at what we were doing.

“We got our noses in front. We knew it was going to be a tight game. Both teams are out there not wanting to lose or giving anything up.

“The lads have got to be disappointed in there.

“We’re just doing some silly little things and hurting ourselves a little bit. We’re scoring goals, not as many as we’d like, but clean sheets are the key and if we defend the throw-in like that we’re going to get hurt.”
