With the ending of Oshi no Ko, 2024 has officially become the year of the worst manga finales. Both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia ended recently, but a majority of fans were not happy with either of the conclusions.
But while My Hero Academia and Oshi no Ko can be forgiven for their final chapters, Gege Akutami is still public enemy No. 1. If you are an avid follower of Jujutsu Kaisen, you would know exactly why the fandom is out for the author’s blood.
Oshi no Ko‘s Final Volume will Feature Extra Pages
According to sources, the final volume of Oshi no Ko, which is volume 16, will include 24 additional pages. The 16th volume will be released on December 18, 2024. Despite the somewhat disappointing ending of the series, at least Aka Akasaka has decided to give fans some additional pages worth of content.
[SPOILER 1]
In the final chapter of Oshi no Ko, Ruby, Memcho, and Akane severely mourn the death of Aqua. The death of her twin left Ruby in shambles, and it was hard for her to pick herself up. However, as time went by, she gathered herself and began performing with his teammates. Eventually, they performed at the Tokyo Dome, and Ruby began to hide her grief with the twinkle in her eyes.
The sudden death of Aqua was extremely disturbing and it was only recently that the character had acquired the will to live. Fans thought that no more unnecessary deaths would be required in the finale, but Akasaka decided to go down the unusual path. Of course, just because the views of fans don’t align with its ending doesn’t mean the author does not have the freedom to create what he wants. However, after the disheartening ending of Jujutsu Kaisen, Oshi no Ko has taken the mantle of the saddest finale.
Atleast Oshi no Ko‘s Finale will be Offset by Extra Pages, Unlike Jujutsu Kaisen
[SPOILER 2]
After Jujutsu Kaisen ended with chapter 271, the series has been appointed in the list of manga with the worst endings. After cruelly killing off Gojo, the author kept giving subtle hints of his return for months before abruptly ending the manga. Fans never got a chance to bid adieu to their favorite character, and Gojo was ultimately used as a tool and thrown away like one.
Oshi no Ko might have also done away with Aqua, but at least the author and illustrator will add a few extra pages to the final volume of the manga, which will pacify fans to some extent. Maybe the pages will feature the day to day life of Ruby or how she is coping with her loss despite everything. It might even feature some extra shots of Aqua and what led to his decision.
In fact, even My Hero Academia‘s final volume (volume 42) was recently confirmed to have 184 pages in total. Since the volume will consist of chapters 423-430, there will be around 60 pages of extra content in addition to the manga chapters. However, Gege Akutami has not even shown this much courtesy to his fans. Jujutsu Kaisen‘s last volume (volume 30) will be released on December 25, 2024, but no announcements of extra pages have been made yet. Given Akutami’s track record, he will most probably avoid doing anything that might give fans peace of mind.
Oshi no Ko manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
