Manchester City fans are not unduly concerned by the club’s recent form, believing injuries are to blame and that Pep Guardiola’s side will still have a successful season.

City lost four straight games across three competitions before the international break and will hope to arrest that slump when they return to the action against Tottenham on Saturday. City have been battling injury problems for much of the season while uncertainty around Guardiola’s future is also a major talking point.

Despite the poor form City remain second in the Premier League, well placed to progress in the Champions League and still with the FA Cup to come.

And, in a Manchester Evening News poll, 50 per cent of those who responded said they were not concerned at all, as opposed to 29 per cent who were mildly concerned and 21 per cent who were very worried. Six in 10 feel injuries are the root cause and 70 per cent believe City will end the season with at least one trophy.

While 30 per cent said they felt Guardiola’s side would not win any competition, one in five think the Premier League title will return to the Etihad for a fifth straight year and 10 per cent feel City will claim the FA Cup. There is less confidence of success in Europe, with only six per cent predicting a second Champions League crown, but 34 per cent envisage City winning more than one trophy.

The recent run of poor form, coupled with Guardiola’s contract expiring in the summer, has prompted speculation as to whether it will be the end of an era at the Etihad. Just over half of those responding (53 per cent) to the survey feel recent results will not impact Guardiola’s decision while 29 per cent believe the losing run is actually more likely to encourage the boss to sign a new contract.
