Wayne Rooney’s time in charge of Plymouth Argyle is set to be starred as part of a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary.
The Manchester United legend joined Plymouth in the summer and has made a mixed start, winning four and drawing four of his first 15 Championship matches in charge. It means Argyle, who avoided relegation to League One on the final day of last season, sit 18th and one point above the drop zone.
And according to The Sun, Rooney’s spell at Plymouth will be broadcast for a TV documentary. It’s reported that a leading company approached him and contacted Plymouth for approval to start filming. Camera crews have started filming Rooney in action at matches and away from football as he enjoys life in Devon.

Rooney moved down to the south west for his latest managerial job and TV companies have been appealed at the thought of covering his new adventure and Argyle’s fight to stay in the second tier. Rooney did a series on his own life a couple of years ago and the success of the Wrexham and Sunderland documentaries has helped prompt there to be more interest in doing a similar-type of documentary.
It also suggests that Rooney will at least see out the remainder of the season at Plymouth. The 39-year-old was sacked from his role at Birmingham in January and spent six months out of the management scene before returning to replace Ian Foster as their next permanent manager.
The news comes as Rooney’s wife, Coleen, is on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity. The former TV star, 38, features on a star-studded 10-person line up which includes former professional boxer Barry McGuigan, Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, Loose Women presenter Jane Moore and content creator GK Barry.
Rooney has settled into life in Plymouth, living in an expensive development down on the River Tamar, which is situated around 10 minutes from Home Park. And Rooney is also mixing in with the local in some of the bars, so there is potential for plenty of content on his latest documentary.
