The 2024 Major League Baseball season is over, and the free agent market is heating up as teams prepare for the 2025 season.
Although there is plenty of talent in this year’s free agent class, the shortstop position lacks many available players.
One free agent shortstop stands out among the rest as Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers sees his stock rising.
MLB Analyst CJ Nitkowski weighed in on Adames’ market heating up this offseason.
“He’s sitting at the top right now because that shortstop position is so thin,” Nitkowski said.

Adames came into the league with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018 where he played three seasons before going to the Brewers during the 2021 season.
In 2024, Adames played all but one game for the Brewers and batted .251 with 32 home runs, 112 RBIs, and a .794 OPS.
Not only is Adames only 29 years old and one of the few shortstops available, but he also had career highs in home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, hits, doubles, and runs scored in 2024.
Nitkowski believes that Adames will be a decent fit in the clubhouse no matter where he goes and that he will have a ton of teams interested in him.
Past reports have indicated that Adames is even willing to switch positions and play second base if he were to join a team who already has a solidified shortstop.
It is uncertain if the Brewers will be one of the teams trying to sign Adames this offseason, but even if they are, there will be plenty of competition.
