The Major League Baseball season has concluded, and the attention is turned to the free agent class and also the award season.
There are plenty of big-name free agents to keep everybody’s attention, but there are also some close races when it comes to the MLB 2024 season awards.
While most of the attention goes to the Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Awards, the Rookie of the Year Award is another one to keep an eye on.
Harold Reynolds gave his opinion on who he thinks will win the Rookie of the Year award in both the American and National Leagues.
According to MLB Network on ‘X,’ Reynolds has Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates winning the National League ROTY and Luis Gil of the New York Yankees winning the American League ROTY.
Harold Reynolds’ Rookie of the Year predictions:
1. Skenes (PIT)
2. Merrill (SD)
3. Chourio (MIL)1. Gil (NYY)
2. Cowser (BAL)
3. Wells (NYY) pic.twitter.com/QWFWQcVyDC— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) November 18, 2024
Reynolds describes how he thinks the NL ROTY race is a lot closer than most people think.
He believes that Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres will make the race interesting even if Skenes does in fact win the award when it is all said and done.
Skenes had an incredible rookie season where he had a record of 11 wins and 3 losses with a 1.96 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 133.0 innings pitched.
Gil of the Yankees also had a solid season where he had a record of 15 wins and seven losses with a 3.50 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 151.2 innings pitched.
Reynolds thinks Gil and Skenes will win the awards in the end, but the races will be closer than people think.
