While we know Iñaki Godoy as Luffy in the live-action adaptation of One Piece, there’s more to him. In terms of acting, Godoy has a diverse portfolio of work ranging from thriller to drama series.

The actor’s popularity boosted since his role as the Straw Hat Captain in the live-action adaptation. That, however, doesn’t negate his previous roles. With the second season in the works, the actor opened up about his role as the captain. And this might upset a lot of fans.

Before his breakthrough in the live-action series, Inaki Godoy starred in various projects. Some of his notable projects include The ImperfectsBlue Demon, and Mex Zombies.

At fourteen, Godoy made his on-screen debut with Go Youth in the year 2020. Be it science-fiction or thriller, the actor never fails to impress the viewers with his versatility. But that is not all, considering his feats as an actor.

Godoy is a multifaceted artist in more ways than one. Apart from gaming and music, the actor is actively involved in different pursuits. This includes learning Japanese along with mixed martial arts.

That is not all, considering his role as Luffy, that prompted him to learn the language. The live-action seems to cover major arcs in the story. With the upcoming season covering the Arabasta saga, the actor opened up about his plans with the franchise.

In an interview with FullHakiMarco, Godoy opened up about his role as the Straw Hat Captain. When asked about the live-action covering most of the manga, the actor seemed reticent about it. He quoted:

I am happy to play Luffy and will play Luffy for as long as it makes sense. Whatever time it takes, if I am playing Luffy is because I am happy to play him, I want to play him, and it makes sense for me to play him.

In totality, Eiichiro Oda’s manga has around 110 volumes with over 1000 chapters. While this may seem a stretch, the anime cut several gore and violent scenes present in the manga.

Whether Godoy will play the role of Strawhat is uncertain. What we know is that the franchise is prepping up for its future projects.

One Piece Universe and its future projects

With the second installment of the live-action in the works, One Piece is on a roll. This is especially true with its other projects, including the recent movie Fan Letter.

While the original anime series was released in 1999, there have been major complaints from fans. This is regarding the series’ pacing and stretched-out chapters. Most viewers deem it a tedious task to go through 1000 episodes of the anime. While pacing is a concern, the remake is set to undo it in most ways.

The anime is currently on a six-month hiatus and will release a remastered version of the series. This is also in sync with the mangaka’s debilitating condition, which has been a major concern among the fans.

Like most in the industry, Oda isn’t exempt from the brutalities. With growing health concerns, the mangaka is taking a break.

As of now, the remastered series is certainly set to release somewhere in 2025. Whether Godoy will continue playing Luffy completely depends on the series. All we can do is hope for a speedy recovery for Oda san and wish for the best.

One Piece live-action is available for streaming on Netflix. The anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Viz Media.
