Diddy Insulted Shyne With Post-Prison Money Offer

Diddy Insulted Shyne With Post-Prison Money Offer

Celebrity

Shyne Barrow is speaking out against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in the lead up to the release of his documentary. He says Diddy insulted him with a compensation offer.

In 2001, an up-and-coming rapper who went by the name Shyne Barrow was convicted of assault following a 1999 incident in a nightclub. Shyne was in the company of his mentor, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Diddy’s then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, and their entourage when shots rang out inside the club. Shyne was the only person convicted in the shooting. After a decade behind bars, he reconnected with Diddy but insists they were never friends. In fact, the former rapper said Diddy’s offer to compensate him for the situation was “offensive.”

Shyne recently revealed that Diddy attempted to pay him off following his nine-year prison stint on gun charges. During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Shyne said he assumed Diddy would offer him over a million for what happened. Instead, he said the rap mogul offered him just $50,000. He recalled asking Diddy if he was “serious” with the offer.

The offer came in 2012, three years after the Flatbush rapper was released from prison and deported to Belize. He insists he met Diddy in Paris, hoping to forgive him for ruining his life. Instead, he left offended.

During an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, Shyne insisted that Diddy’s monetary compensation came after his prison stint. He said the two offers he received were “offensive.” Still, he insists that anyone who claims he was “paid off” to take the fall for Diddy’s role in the nightclub shooting has their facts wrong. Still, he has maintained his innocence in the years since his trial. Shyne has long asserted that he did not fire a gun at anyone and that everyone knows he was the “fall guy.”

Why was Shyne deported?

Shyne was in his early 20s when he was sent to prison for his role in a shooting at a New York City nightclub. He was convicted of assault in 2001, two years after Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Jennifer Lopez Shyne, and Combs’ bodyguard were involved in the nightclub shooting. He received a 10-year sentence, becoming eligible for Parole in 2009.

While Shyne was released in 2009, he didn’t return to Brooklyn, where he mostly grew up. Instead, he was deported to Belize. The rapper moved to the United States as a child with his mother and had a green card at the time of the shooting. Still, he was not a naturalized citizen. Because of his citizenship status and his felony conviction, he was deported and denied re-entry into the United States. Attempts to have the rapper pardoned were unsuccessful.

Combs was acquitted of his role in the shooting. Charges against Lopez were dropped almost immediately after the shooting, and the world essentially moved on from the incident. Diddy and Lopez both continued their music careers, albeit apart, while Shyne served time in prison.
