Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Jennifer Lopez dated between 1999 and 2001. His ex, Kim Porter, was not happy with him during this time.
Kim Porter learned from a friend that Sean “Diddy” Combs was dating Jennifer Lopez. She said the news devastated her. It didn’t help that Combs continually contacted her during this time. She said there were many days when she couldn’t bear to talk to him. He made Porter feel sick to her stomach.

When Combs began dating Lopez, Porter kicked him out of their home. Still, he continued to call her many times a day and showed up at the house unannounced. They had a court-mandated visitation agreement for their son, but he admitted that he ignored it.
“It was like my life was not my own,” Porter told Essence. “He was very, very intrusive.”
Porter said she couldn’t stand it when he came to the house. She didn’t even like to look at him during this time.
“He would say he needed to see his son, but I was at a place where just the sight of him would turn my stomach,” Porter said. “My feeling was, you made this decision, now stay over there. I can’t repeat everything I said at the time, because it’s really not that ladylike. But I was very expressive about it.”
She shared how she found out about the relationship
Porter was still with Combs when he started dating Lopez. He wasn’t the one who told her about his new relationship.
“A friend called my cell phone,” she said. “Then a few weeks later, the press hit.”
She said she struggled with having her heartbreak so publicized. People offered her their sympathy, which she disliked.
“Everywhere I went, people were asking, ‘Are you okay?’” she said. “I just hated that.”
She tried to keep herself together for the sake of her new baby.
“People just believed everything they saw in print, and they were talking to me like I was really crushed,” she said. “But I had just had a baby. I couldn’t be somewhere in a corner heartbroken. I have kids. I’m a grown woman.”

As Porter noted, Combs called her and dropped by constantly while he dated Lopez. This led her to believe that the relationship wasn’t what it seemed.
“That relationship wasn’t real,” she said. “The world just saw the bright lights and the camera. But I knew what was really going on. He was still in love with me.”
Porter believed Combs liked the publicity that the romance with Lopez brought him. He initially moved on from their relationship because he didn’t think Porter brought the excitement and adoration he wanted.
“He just got caught up in the hype,” Porter said. “And my man is Mr. Hype.”
Combs and Lopez had an on and off again relationship and ended things for good in 2001. After that, he and Porter got back together and dated until 2007.
