The biggest appeal of Koyoharu Gotoge’s DS shonen series is its brisk pace that prioritized getting straight to the big moments. Furthermore, the character’s emotional backstory, followed by the complexities of good and evil, makes most fans deeply resonate and captivated with the series.
Despite Koyoharu’s Demon Slayer achieving immense success, the mangaka left a major plot hole in the story, leaving many questions unanswered.
The Unresolved Plot Hole in Demon Slayer That Still Puzzles Fans
The end of Season 4 left fans at the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the result of Infinity Castle. One key element where Koyoharu Gotoge’s DS truly shines is its emotional depth, as even the villains’ tragic backstories can leave fans in tears.
In the DS universe, there is only one who stands higher than all the other demons, and it’s Muzan. From the very start, Koyoharu Gotoge shed light on the terror of demons, with Muzan at the center of the chaos, earning the title of The Demon King.

Fueled by anger, Tanjiro was determined to behead Muzan without delay. However, throughout his journey, he faced numerous demons that pushed him to grow stronger, ultimately preparing him to face the Demon King.
Though Demon Slayer‘s narrative is captivating, Gotoge never addressed the story’s biggest plot hole: the unexplained origins and mechanics of the demons’ unique abilities, The Blood Demon Art.
It’s briefly mentioned that “some” demons possess the power to use Blood Demon Art, but the mechanics and origins of these abilities remain unexplained.
What makes it even more puzzling is how the distribution and acquisition of such a powerful art appear entirely random. At first, it appeared only stronger demons who have consumed an immense amount of human blood would possess such terrifying power.
However, later Nezuko, who had never drunk human blood, could use the art too, leaving many viewers perplexed about the origins of this unique ability. Sadly, even after the conclusion of the famous manga series, Koyoharu Gotoge never addressed this mystery, leaving it as the story’s biggest plot hole.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni: The Strongest Demon Slayer Hashira
Yoriichi Tsugikuni is the creator of the Sun Breathing Style and the legendary Demon Slayer, who lived over 500 years ago. Yoriichi was the only individual who solely made the Demon King bend a knee and nearly beheaded him, if not for Muzan’s cheap tricks.
Koyoharu Gotouge portrayed Yoriichi Tsugikuni as someone so powerful that he never doomed the Sun Breathing creator with the tragic fate of every Demon Slayer mark’s user. Sadly, every Demon Slayer who unlocks their mark is destined to die at the young age of 25.
However, Yoriichi Tsugikuni wasn’t affected by this curse. Since Yoriichi was born with a mark, it’s likely his body adapted to the mark’s immense power at birth. This led the strongest Demon Slayer to live till his mid-80s and reminisce about his failed duty to kill Muzan.
