Pep Guardiola has agreed a new contract with Manchester City.
The reigning Premier League champion is expected to officially announce Guardiola’s new contract in the coming days. The Spanish coach’s current deal expires at the end of this season, but his new contract will keep him in Manchester until at least June 2026.
It’s believed Guardiola’s fresh contract will have the option for a further year. Liverpool fans have been awaiting this news for some time, as they can now expect many more battles with Guardiola’s City over the next two-and-a-half years.
The Athletic reported news of Guardiola’s new deal on Tuesday. City is refusing to comment on the report, as per Sky Sports News.
City fans will be delighted with the news considering the manager’s achievements in Manchester – winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three Community Shields, the Champions League, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
But Guardiola needs to pick up a win sooner rather than later. City is on a four-game losing run for the first time since 2006, the first time Guardiola has ever experienced such a dire run during his managerial career. City face Tottenham at home an Saturday.
“It is a tough challenge, but I am here,” Guardiola said after his team’s third defeat in-a-row against Sporting Lisbon. “It will be a tough season — we knew that from the start. But this is what it is. I like it, I love it, I want to face it and lift my players and try it.”
Guardiola is one of the most decorated and experienced managers in the game. At Barcelona, he won three La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, three Spanish Super Cups, two Champions Leagues, two European Super Cups, and two Club World Cups. And at Bayern Munich, he won three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, the European Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.
Guardiola enjoyed a glittering playing career with Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles and the European Cup (today known as the Champions League) during the 1990s, among other honors. He also played 47 times for Spain at senior level and enjoyed spells in Italy with Brescia and Roma, in Qatar with Al-Ahli, and in Mexico with Dorados.
