Dwayne Johnson’s latest project has hit theatres, a Christmas film that takes the urban fantasy approach for its narrative, called Red One. The film stars Hollywood heavyweights like J.K. Simmons, Chris Evans, and Lucy Liu. Red One has garnered some interest from audiences, but there is one particular aspect of the film that has grabbed the attention of Dana White.
While Red One celebrates the various holiday spirits that are usually associated with Christmas, there is also a part of the narrative that sees the Krampus engage in a game that is pretty reminiscent of Dana White’s Power Slap.
Red One’s Krampusschlap is pretty similar to Power Slap
Krampusschlap, as revealed in the Red One trailer, is a game that is very similar to Power Slap. With Dana White acknowledging this little nod to his game, the question that now must be answered is how such a niche hobby caught the attention of an ensemble Hollywood project.
The link, of course, lies in Dwayne Johnson, who has been a personal friend of Dana White (who tagged Johnson in his story post on Instagram). The wrestler-turned-actor is also an important name in the UDC-WWE circle, being a board member of the TKO Group Holdings.
While Power Slap is something that has yet to achieve the same amount of success as UFC and WWE, its being highlighted in a film like Red One is a testament to how much the creators of the format are confident in the sport, such that they are comfortable featuring it in a big budget Hollywood production.
Dana White feels that Dwayne Johnson might be on his way to get an Oscar
Dwayne Johnson’s hotly anticipated Mark Kerr biopic, titled The Smashing Machine, might be on its way to the Oscars according to Dana White, who let Collider know his thoughts about the film (via Essentially Sports):
Dwayne Johnson will be essaying the role of Mark Kerr, a fighter in the UFC’s early days who smashed his way to victory, becoming one of the most dangerous fighters in the ring. Fittingly called The Smashing Machine, Kerr was notorious for knocking out multiple opponents in a single night. The film is being produced by A24, and seems to be Johnson’s foray into prestige drama acting after spending a long career changing the landscape for the action-adventure genre in film.
Red One is currently in theatres.
The Smashing Machine is set to release in 2025.
