Diablo 4 hotfix targets Antivenin Elixir bug that breaks the endgame

A new Diablo 4 hotfix is rolling out to squash a bug with the Elixir of Antivenin. The bug multiplies your characters’ health total vastly above its usual amount, pushing numbers that typically only just stretch into the thousands up towards the millions. In many cases, it is also possible to transfer this huge boon into damage as well, making it easy to race through the highest difficulty of the Blizzard RPG’s endgame.

The new Diablo 4 patch notes are short but sweet. The focus is on the Elixir of Antivenin, a stat-boosting potion that can be unlocked by completing a side quest for NPC Baraim in the Kehjistan hub town of Gea Kul. Typically, it boosts your character’s maximum life by 15% and their poison resistance by 20% for 30 minutes – already a pretty strong boon by the usual standards of the RPG.

Since the recent rollout of patch 2.0.5, however, the Antivenin Elixir has been rather overtuned. It’s applying a multiplicative bonus that, when stacked with other boosts to your maximum life, can push a value that typically might only just climb beyond 10,000 for very well-geared endgame builds rise into the high hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

Because certain skills and other modifiers such as Overpower gain additional damage based on your maximum life, this can go one step further and make you as potent offensively as you are defensively. The short video above from Diablo streamer ‘Barricade’ shows that his Spiritborn’s damage numbers are so high they’re actually rolling over into displaying negative values as he crushes through the maximum-tier Pit 150. Fortunately, Blizzard confirms it is already in the process of rolling out Diablo 4 hotfix 2.0.5a, which resolves this issue.

If you don’t yet own the Vessel of Hatred DLC and are curious to try the hottest new class in town, a Diablo 4 Spiritborn free trial is live through Monday December 2 allowing you to get hands-on with it. You can play up to level 25, with your progress carrying over should you choose to buy the DLC after checking it out. There’s also bonus gold and experience from the Mother’s Blessing event running until Tuesday November 26.
