Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the most popular anime which snatches up all the ratings whenever it airs. It has a wholesome protagonist with a not-so-wholesome background. But one of the biggest plus points of the anime is definitely its fandom.
Toxic fandoms are everywhere; the bigger and more popular the series, the more toxic fans they gather. However, with Demon Slayer, the fandom is considerably less toxic than those of other Shonen series.
Voice Actor of Tanjiro Talks About the Wholesome Demon Slayer Fandom
In an interview, Zack Aguilera, the voice actor of Tanjiro, discussed Demon Slayer‘s steady growth into massive popularity. Aguilera admitted that he had always known it was a highly anticipated show, but he had never expected it to blow up like it did in recent years.
Aguilera also had some very positive things to say about the Demon Slayer fans:
Demon Slayer fans admittedly have less toxic discussions on social media platforms. In a world where people are quick to compare their favorite protagonists to Goku, Luffy, or Naruto, Demon Slayer fans stay happy with Tanjiro and the hashiras. Demon Slayer is a friendly yet complex series enjoyed by fans of all age groups.
Probably the biggest problem you might encounter in the fandom is random shipping between characters. Otherwise, fans are either busy crying over Rengoku or debating on the Hashiras and Upper Rank Demons.
Toxicity Among Anime Fandoms is Spreading at a Rapid Rate
In terms of toxicity, the biggest fandoms are the worst ones. To be honest, every series has toxic fans, and if the franchise is extremely popular, that number of toxic fans increases accordingly. That’s why you will find people calling anything other than their favorite series ‘trash’ with no regrets.
The One Piece fandom has been in the limelight recently for review bombing Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War episodes. This was probably an act of jealousy since Bleach was receiving more ratings than One Piece during its Fall 2024 debut. The rating of Bleach: TYBW Part 3 dropped alarmingly due to the insane act.
Black Clover is also a victim of toxic fans of the Big 3. The series is often blamed for plagiarizing popular anime/manga, even though the tropes in Black Clover have been present for a long time. It is also accused by My Hero Academia fans for copying Deku’s character for Asta. One troller even managed to criticize Yuki Tabata‘s art. For years, Black Clover has been through some pretty toxic sludge despite not deserving it.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
