Two Wales legends went undercover as ‘Jez and Norman’ in the centre of Cardiff on match day last weekend.

Sam Warburton and Jamie Roberts suited up in big Welsh Rugby Union coats, wigs and glasses to conceal their identity. From there, the legendary duo pretended to work in the WRU’s match day store ahead of Wales v Australia.

Former flanker Warburton asked his first customer: “Have you been a big Welsh rugby fan long?”, to which she replied: “Yes, all my life”. Secret cameras were set up within the store and outside to capture their interactions.

With Roberts standing in disguise next to him, Warburton asked who the customer’s favourite number 12 was throughout the years, citing Gavin Henson and Jamie Roberts as options.

“Oh, Jamie Roberts every time,” she said.

“Oh, he was gorgeous wasn’t he?” asked Warburton. “Gorgeous,” she added, before saying: “Well, he’s manly isn’t he?”

After saying goodbye to the customer, the pair laughed as Roberts exclaimed: “She chose Jamie because he’s manly!”

Some fans cottoned on that it was someone in disguise right away, with one woman asking: “Are you someone I know?”. Despite this hiccup, Roberts made way for another Welsh rugby fan, asking one gentleman: “If you could bring back one flanker into this side as a seven: Martyn Williams, Justin Tipuric, Sam Warburton – who would it be?”

“Sam,” then man replied.

“And what about one centre? Tom Shanklin or Jamie Roberts?,” asked Roberts.

“Shanklin. Roberts didn’t have it,” answered the man comically as Roberts told the camera crew to “cut that bit out”.

Roberts then asked a customer back at the stall: “If you were to bring back one number seven from the past to play for Wales now, who would it be? Martyn Williams or Sam Warburton?”

“At the moment, we probably need more of a Sam Warburton,” answered the man. “I think what he was very good at, was all the other players would raise their standards.”

“Norm, do you mind if I jump in?,” asked Warburton, before the man instantly realised and burst into laughter.”

It was an unfortunate day for Wales, with Warren Gatland’s team falling to a 52-20 defeat against the Wallabies. They are facing the Springboks this weekend to close out the autumn internationals in Cardiff.
