The return of Grant Hall from suspension creates a large selection headache as Swindon Town finally have the chance to select a first-choice defence.
After getting a straight red card for a rash tackle on Timothee Dieng in the early stages against Gillingham, Hall has finally served his three-match suspension and returns to contention ahead of the game against Morecambe this weekend.
The 33-year-old played under Holloway for 18 months when the pair were at Queen’s Park Rangers and he finally has the chance to select him at Town.
Swindon brought in Hall along with the experienced duo of Will Wright and Ryan Delaney this summer but they have not been able to play alongside each other in any game so far in a competitive game nor in pre-season.
Holloway said that he was excited to get Hall back and have more options to pick from ahead of this key clash against the league’s bottom side.
He said: “Grant is back from his suspension and we have had no more injuries, so I have got a nice selection problem.
“When you have got a chance, it is nice to pick some senior lads and we haven’t had that opportunity.
“The back three that we are supposed to be seeing on a regular basis, they haven’t played together once yet.”
Captain Ollie Clarke is the only senior player not available at the moment after he ruptured a tendon on the outside of his ankle during training last week, along with him, Rosaire Longelo was not fully fit and missed the trip to Accrington Stanley
Clarke is set to be out for the next four weeks having landed awkwardly challenging for a header in training, Nnamdi Ofoborh and Joel Cotterill came into the team last week to replace him after he had begun life very well under the new manager.
Despite not being available to play, Holloway said that he has been very pleased with what Clarke had shown as a leader in the group and he also believes he can help him to become an even bigger influence within the dressing room.
He said: “Hopefully we will get Ollie back soon because he has got everything that I will ever need in a bloke who is trying to lead people in there.
“He doesn’t talk like I do, though, hopefully, I will be able to teach him that but he does it by example.”
