With Dragon Ball DAIMA‘s premiere, Toei carries forward Akira Toriyama’s lasting legacy, ensuring it lives on forever. Goku’s return has set the internet ablaze, and many fans believe DAIMA could outshine Dragon Ball Super.
Episode 1 confirms that the premise is set after the Majin Buu events, meaning DAIMA events take place before Goku’s big Beerus fight in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. While Toei Animation affirms that Dragon Ball Daima is fully canon and ties into Dragon Ball Super, the studio may have mistakenly added a significant plot hole.
DAIMA Undermines Key Dragon Ball Super Development with a Major Plot Hole
Dragon Ball DAIMA debuted to an amazing reception, marking a thrilling new era for the Dragon Ball universe and drawing fans back into the action. It follows the story of Goku in the nebulous Demon Realm before he and the rest of DB‘s cast find themselves transformed into mini-kid versions of themselves.
In the opening moments of Episode 1, DAIMA establishes its position in the Dragon Ball timeline, set before Beerus and Whis’ arrival in the Battle of Gods arc. The Z fighters will have the same power level as they did back in the Buu Saga and will not have access to any god-tier transformations.
Regardless, Toei makes sure to address the fans’ confusion about the series being canon by mentioning Universe 7 in the first episode, when Gomah, Degesu, and Neva were traveling to Earth to make their devious wishes.
Although a key moment, the latest DAIMA episode may have contained a major mistake when Goku overhears Supreme Kai mentioning Universe 7. In the DAIMA episode 5, Universe 7 is again brought up, which confirms again that the events of Dragon Ball Super are coming.
Supreme Kai tells the demon to head to Universe 7 to ensure the group (Vegeta, Picollo, and Bulma) has the pin number and can access the Demon Realm. Though it might not seem like a major reference, the main issue is that the entire interaction took place in front of Goku.

Since Goku learned about the multi-universe in Dragon Ball Super, many fans are questioning if this creates a major plot hole on Toei’s part. Back in the Battle of God’s arc, Beerus reveals the secret of all twelve Universes and him being the God of Destruction of Universe 7 to Goku.
Given that DAIMA is set before DBS, Goku’s surprise at Beerus revealing Universe 7 contradicts the established timeline details, creating a noticeable plot hole in the process.
However, Toei could still address this by emphasizing Goku’s usual aloof nature, making it plausible that he simply forgot this important information later on. This is especially likely since the Supreme Kai didn’t mention any strong warriors in their conversation that might have captured Goku’s attention.
Will Dragon Ball DAIMA Feature Goku’s SSJ4 Transformation
Though Dragon Ball GT might not be as renowned as DBZ or DBS, the series is famous for featuring the iconic SSJ4 transformation and thrilling antagonists. DAIMA presents the perfect opportunity to honor the legendary mangaka’s contributions.
While there’s been no official confirmation, following the story’s premise, the return of SSJ4 transformation is highly likely. With SSJ3 being Goku’s most powerful transformation, it would make sense to reintroduce SSJ4 if he wants to beat powerful new enemies like Neva’s Tamigami’s in the Demon Realm.
DAIMA is all about celebrating the 40-year legacy of Dragon Ball, which includes reintroducing iconic elements from the series, such as Goku’s Power Pole. Thus, giving Goku SSJ4 would be an exciting way for DAIMA to commemorate all of Dragon Ball‘s rich history.
