Lord Voldemort’s Origin was Scrapped from the Original Films
When the Harry Potter films were released during the early 2000s, audiences were greeted with a magical depiction of J.K. Rowling‘s beloved books. Fans want the HBO reboot to delve into Voldemort’s maternal ancestors, the Gaunts (who were direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin), and discuss their twisted heritage, abusive household, and history of insanity. Focusing on his mother Merope Gaunt—who fell in love with a wealthy Muggle, Tom Riddle, and used Amortentia to make him fall in love with her—Potterheads hope for the show to explore her tragic and heartbreaking fate.
Showcasing how Merope Gaunt was disowned by her family and abandoned during her pregnancy by Tom Riddle, which led her to give birth to her son (who later became Voldemort) in an orphanage, fans hope for the show to justify how this emotional neglect and abandonment shaped Tom Marvolo Riddle’s early years.
