After 24 seasons and six Super Bowl titles won, the New England Patriots decided it was time to move on from legendary head coach Bill Belichick and officially begin the rebuilding process with rookie quarterback Drake Maye under center for the foreseeable future.
Although there was a lot of speculation about who Belichick’s successor in New England would be well before he was fired, the team didn’t hesitate to make former player Jerod Mayo the new leader on the sideline when the time came.
This choice came with a lot of criticism, considering the viable options that were available to the Patriots on the open market, but longtime team owner Robert Kraft was confident in the move, as he’s grown quite fond of Mayo.
However, things haven’t gone well for Mayo in New England since he took over for Belichick, as the Patriots have only won three games this season following the loss to the division-rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday, who carved up the team’s defense all day long.
Apparently, Patriots fans seem to have had enough of Mayo as their new head coach in New England:
Jerod Mayo is a horrible coach, has no feel for the game. No situational awareness, get rid of him and basically the entire coaching staff!

the dropoff from the best coach of all time to jerod mayo has been significant

I have to say it, i don’t care. Jerod Mayo is an absolute disgrace to this organization. A disgrace. He’s terrible. He doesn’t deserve to be back. This team does nothing well. This is impossible, man.

Jerod Mayo is a terrible coach. He didn’t pay his dues. He tried to rise to the top by flattering a billionaire and stabbing his mentor in the back. This is not anyone we should root for. If the Patriots decide to get a real football coach, I’ll consider supporting them again.

With the Patriots at the beginning of a rebuilding process, it remains to be seen if Kraft is eager to make a change or if he’ll let things play out this year and give Mayo a chance to redeem himself next season.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Patriots brass will do, as it could come down to not wanting to derail Maye’s development.
