The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season after finishing with a record of 81 wins and 81 losses.

After winning the World Series in 2018, the Red Sox have only made the playoffs once in the last six seasons.

The American League East division is often thought of as the best division in baseball, so the Red Sox need to stay aggressive this offseason to stay competitive.

They are attempting to do this by meeting with the top free agent Juan Soto, and Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks revealed his thoughts on the team meeting with Soto.

“From all I know, we’re going full metal, and hopefully we can make those big moves because it’s the AL East,” Hendriks said.

Hendriks points out that from a roster breakdown perspective, the move may not make the most sense, but how often does a player of Soto’s caliber at his age come along in free agency?

Soto is only 26 years old and has already played for three teams including the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, and New York Yankees.

2024 was Soto’s first season with the Yankees and he batted .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, and a .989 OPS while also leading the way offensively for the Yankees in the postseason.

If the Red Sox were able to sign Soto, they would not only receive one of the best players in baseball, but they would be taking one of the best players in baseball away from their division rival.

The Red Sox will do everything they can to sign Soto, but that can be said for multiple different teams who are pursuing him.
